Electropainting, powdercoating and wet spray painting

Our industrial electropainting, powdercoating and wet spray painting capabilities allow us to provide assembly and component products that are fully painted and ready to go.

At our industrial plant in Newcastle we offer these three coating processes:

ELECTROPAINTING (PRIMER/TOPCOAT)

Electropainting (or E-coating) is an economical and corrosion resistant finish used either on its own or as a primer for powder coating or wet spray paint.

E-coating is applied by submerging components in the coating then applying an electrical current, enhancing the corrosion resistance. The process can be divided into four distinct steps:

Electropainting at ADM Pressings

Step one: the pretreatment process, during which metals are cleaned and phosphated to create corrosion protective layer and prepare the surface for application of the electrocoat – the phosphating stage is usually called a conversion coating.

Step two: the electrocoat bath is applied using ancillary and process control equipment. The electrocoat bath consists of 80% - 90% deionized water and 10% - 20% paint solids.

Step three: the post-rinse, where excess paint solids are returned to the tank.

Step four: curing in the electrocoated part in the bake oven. The minimum bake schedule is 20 minutes with a part temperature at 155°C for most electrocoat technologies.

The maximum size of the components that can be E-coated at our site is:

  • Height: 1800 mm
  • Width: 900 mm
  • Length: 2000 mm
  • Weight: 400 kg / flight bar

POWDER COATING (TOP COAT)

ADM offers two powder paint coating systems:

Epoxy Powder Coating: this is a standard powder coating used as a top coat for various components.

After parts have been E-coated, epoxy powder coating is applied as a free-flowing, dry powder. Unlike conventional liquid paint, which is delivered via an evaporating solvent, powder coating is applied electrostatically and then cured under heat.

This coating system create a hard finish that is tougher than conventional paint with smooth top coat.

Dust on Dust: this solution allows for the application of a powder primer and top coat with a single cure, eliminating the need for intermediate cure.

“Dust on Dust” system is used mainly for the heavy-duty machinery market but also agriculture machinery.

This system offers the edge coverage and corrosion resistance of a functional coating combined with the weatherability and aesthetics of a smooth top coat.

The product specifically meets the needs of manufacturers who produce products with sharp edges.

The maximum size of the components that can be powder coated at our site is:

  • Height: 1700 mm
  • Width: 900 mm
  • Length: 2000 mm
  • Weight: 300 kg including flight bar per work pitch

WET SPRAY PAINT (TOP COAT)

We offer two Wet Spray coating systems:

Polyurethane Coating with AAA system: High Performance two pack Polyurethane coating used as both a primer and a top coat for various components that is deposited on the E-coated parts and applied with Airless Air Assisted system supported with GRACO ProMix® 2KE Plural Component Mixing System.

Polyurethane Coating with conventional spray: High Performance two pack Polyurethane coating used for both primer and as a top coat for various components that is deposited on the E-coated parts and applied with conventional spray method.

The maximum size of the components that can be painted in this plant is:

  • Height: 1700 mm
  • Width: 900 mm
  • Length: 2000 mm
  • Weight: 120 kg including flight bar per work pitch (60kg per pendent)
